  Internet Safety & NetAlert
The Internet has bought an almost infinite world of opportunities into our homes and schools. Instant communication, information discovery, online publishing and much more. It allows children to explore endlessly - but its not all good news. Just as in the real world, there are potential problems and dangers associated with Internet use. It's vital that children are made aware of these risks.
Here at St. Simon's you can rest assured that appropriate measures have been taken to ensure that your child is able to use the Internet in a safe and non-threatening environment. Software filters, rules and procedures are strictly adhered to to ensure that your child is able to safely use the Internet.
An essential part of keeping your child safe is to make them aware of these dangers, and to talk to them about how to avoid potential problems. Remember that children will probably have acess to the Internet outside the school and home - libraries, friends' houses. By allowing children to make informed decisions about the content they access, and who they "chat" to , they will be in a good position to use the Internet in a responsible way when they are away from their home and school environment. NetAlert (Australia's Internet safety advisory body) has a range of educational programs available free of charge. These have been developed to teach children important Internet safety skills, which will help them have a safe and enjoyable Internet experience.
